Should I choose Windows or Linux Hosting for my website?

Windows or Linux Hosting Package?

When starting to build a website and choosing a hosting a provider you find that most companies give an option of either a windows or linux hosting server. But what is the difference? Do you have to have windows hosting if you use windows operating system or can you choose Linux? What are the noteable differences? I will attempt to debunk some of the mystery and confusion to help you choose the correct hosting for your digital creations.

Do i have to use Windows hosting if my computers OS is also Windows?

It is a complete myth that you must select windows hosting ( you will be glad to hear ) if your OS is Windows. It is in my opinion, Windows ( like most Microsoft products ) tend to be sluggish or badly designed when it comes to being used for designer purposes. Don’t worry about compatibility i.e. windows for windows, you are not running your website from your computer so what does it matter if your hosting provider is using linux? It has as much relevance as wearing nike trainers with adidas tracksuit, it doesn’t effect your ability to create some amazing results.

Saying that, there is a situation I think you should choose Windows over Linux Hosting.

What coding language are you using?

What really matters is what coding language are you wanting to use in developing your site?  What is going to drive your website needs? This is true no matter what system you’re using. Things that run on your web host have to be specially crafted to run on a website. So saying that consider are you using ASP, .NET, Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL (MSSQL? ) then I think you should definitely think about using Windows Hosting otherwise if you are using a CMS such as Joomla, WordPress or Drupal then Linux/Unix is your definite choice. It just seems to work a lot faster and speed of sites are so important to your users.
